The Army Painter Sponsors the World Team Championship

The Army Painter Sponsors the World Team Championship

At The Army Painter, we believe the best thing about wargaming isn’t the miniatures, the dice, or even the paint. It’s the people. It’s the friendships forged over tabletop battlefields, the shared hype before big events, and the feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself every time you bring your army to the table. That’s the spirit the World Team Championship embodies and why we’re thrilled to continue supporting the premier international team event for Warhammer 40,000 and one of the most meaningful community gatherings in the hobby as the official sponsor.

Born From Players, Built on Friendship

Team Play

The WTC’s story isn’t one of corporate beginnings or big-budget launches. It grew from hobbyists who rolled up their sleeves and did it themselves. In the early years, teams played in school halls and improvised venues, driven by nothing more than their love for the game and the friendships it created. That grassroots energy still shapes the event to this day.

Our connection to the WTC started the same way many great hobby stories do: across a gaming table. Years ago, our co-founder Bo Penstoft met WTC Chairman Tom Adriany when Bo was the captain of the Danish team. They bonded over a shared belief—that the community deserves moments that feel meaningful, celebratory, and world-class. Back then, WTC champions didn’t even get trophies, just pride and handshakes. With The Army Painter’s sponsorship, the WTC introduced medals, championship rings, and commemorative dice, ensuring players received the recognition worthy of world champions. These awards honoured the spirit of competition and community’s dedication to the hobby.

A Global Stage for Team Play

Game Being Played

Over the years, the WTC has grown from a small gathering into a global celebration of the hobby. Teams now travel from across the world, including Thailand, Singapore, China, South Africa, Puerto Rico, and more, to compete at the highest level. What began as a small volunteer-driven event has become a cornerstone of competitive Warhammer, influencing tournament formats and team play culture around the globe.

As the event has grown, so has its reach. Tabletop streaming has surged in popularity, and the WTC now draws massive online audiences as well as packed halls. Seeing thousands of fans tune in to watch competitive Warhammer in real-time is proof of what the community has always known: this hobby is inspiring and worth celebrating on the world stage.

Why We Support the WTC

Thomas Presents

At The Army Painter, our mission has always been to empower hobbyists—to make painting more accessible, more fun, and more rewarding. Sponsoring the WTC is a natural extension of that mission. We support this event not just because of what it has become, but because of what it represents: passion, camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the belief that wargaming can bring people together.

We’re honoured to stand alongside the organisers, players, painters, and fans who make the WTC what it is. We can’t wait to see the global community keep pushing tabletop gaming to new heights.

The next World Team Championship will be held from August 11–16, 2026.
